GOOSE CREEK, S.C. – Owing the IRS can sometimes make a person feel like they are sinking in quicksand. Fortunately, the Offer in Compromise program from the IRS is designed to help those in need.

Ken Roe of Scottsdale, AZ, was making monthly payments to the IRS, but he saw no relief in sight. That’s when he came to JK Harris and Company, the nation’s largest tax representation firm.

“I was paying $300 a month to the IRS and getting nowhere,” Roe said. “In fact, during a five-year period, I actually owed more money than when I started the IRS payment program.”

When he came to JK Harris for assistance, Roe owed the IRS more than $64,000. After several conversations with the IRS Revenue Officer, and her manager, JK Harris was able to negotiate a settlement of $1,843.16.

An Offer in Compromise is an agreement between the taxpayer and the IRS that resolves the taxpayer’s debt for less than what is actually owed. This type of agreement can only be made if the taxpayer has certain financial circumstances, which make it unlikely for him to ever be able to pay the liability in full. The settlement amount reflects what the IRS determines the taxpayer can realistically pay.

“Wow, what a relief,” Roe said. “Before I asked JK Harris to help me with my tax problem, I thought I would never be able to pay back the past due taxes I owed the IRS. Working closely with JK Harris and my personal representative changed my life.”
