GOOSE CREEK, S.C. - The idea for a food drive started after JK Harris, the nation’s largest tax representation company, held its first payroll deduction campaign for Trident United Way. The Executive Director of Helping Hands of Goose Creek, Michelle Arredondo, stopped by to speak to JK Harris employees on the day of the campaign kickoff.

“Our employees heard the challenges this charity is facing due to the current economic climate,” said Gina Anton, Director of Corporate Communications at JK Harris and the company’s Campaign Coordinator for United Way. “When they found out the charity was giving out more food donations than ever and looking toward the holidays, the most challenging time of the year, they were inspired to do something.”

And do something they did. Two employees looked into the idea of doing a company wide food drive to help fill the food and personal hygiene product pantry at the food bank. From there, they planned, posted flyers, and set up collection sites within the company. The donations started in coming in last week and are continuing to pile up.

“I’ve always been proud of our employees; anytime they have been called on to help out, they have met the challenge,” said company president and founder, John Harris. “JK Harris employees have helped hurricane victims, families of the Charleston firefighters who were lost in the June 2007 fire, and our own employees who have experienced loss or hardship.”
