Houston, TX - History
Houston was founded on August 30, 1836 by brothers Augustus Chapman Allen and John Kirby Allen near the banks of Buffalo Bayou. Houston was the capital of the Republic from 1837 to 1840.The city was incorporated in June 1837 and named after the President of the Republic of Texas, General Sam Houston.
