JK Harris Recommends Getting A Jump On Taxes

JK Harris, the nation's largest tax representation firm, recommends that a fast start on your taxes can lead to an easier overall filing experience.

JK Harris & Company (www.jkharris.com) also suggests that if you need to have your taxes prepared by a professional, gathering the information and submitting it to your tax preparer earlier can make life simpler for everyone. Plus, by getting a jump on your taxes now, you can cut down on errors that can hold up all areas of your return, including your refund.

"We can't emphasize enough how important it is to get started on your taxes as soon as possible," JK Harris Senior Technical Consultant Charlie Jones said. "It makes life easier on everyone, especially the taxpayer, because it cuts down on rushing which causes unnecessary errors which leads to delays."

The IRS suggests seven easy ways to get a jump on your taxes:

1. Gather your records in advance. Make sure you have all the records you need, including W-2s and 1099s. Don't forget to save a copy of your files.

2. Get the right forms. They're available around the clock on www.irs.gov in the Forms and Publications section.

3. Take your time. Don't forget to leave room for a coffee break when filling out your tax return. Rushing can mean making a mistake - and that can be expensive.

4. Double-check your math and Social Security number. These are among the most common errors on tax returns. Taking care of these items reduces your chances of hearing from the IRS.

5. Get the fast refund. When you file early, you get your refund faster. Using e-filing with direct deposit gets you a refund in half the time as paper filing.

6. E-Filing is easy. E-filing catches math problems, provides confirmation your return has been received and gives you a faster refund.

7. Don't panic. If you have a problem or question, remember your tax professional or the IRS can help. Try www.irs.gov or call the toll-free customer service number at 1-800-829-1040.
