California Man Pleased JK Harris Ended Tax Nightmare
Please see important note at bottom of this story
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – Edward T. of Pomona, CA found out the hard way that some people will take advantage of your generosity. When he got a letter from the State of California saying he owed $286,031.25 in back taxes and penalties, he panicked.
Edward allowed an acquaintance to open a business in his name since the “friend” did not have a good credit rating. Edward had never owned a business before and thought he would be involved in name only. When the acquaintance did not pay taxes on the business for three years, the California State Board of Equalization began garnishing Edward’s wages. A family man with six children, Edward faced immediate financial hardship. That’s when he called JK Harris.
Edward expressed his desire for a Spanish-speaking Case Specialist, and JK Harris granted his request.
“Edward was very happy to be able to discuss his tax problems in his native language and ultimately, we were able to work closely together to get his Offer in Compromise submitted quickly,” said the JK Harris Case Specialist who handled the case.
An Offer in Compromise is an agreement between the taxpayer and the state. The Offer in Compromise program is for taxpayers or feepayers that do not have, and will not have in the foreseeable future, the income, assets, or means to pay their tax liability in full.
Edward ran into additional problems when the Revenue Officer for the BOE would not release or modify the levy that had been placed against his earnings. The Officer then began levying the bank account where his son’s financial aid for college tuition had been deposited, which was not authorized. When the Revenue Officer refused to refund the financial aid monies after being shown proof that Edward’s son had taken a loan out to attend college, JK Harris contacted BOE and successfully had the Revenue Officer removed from Edward’s case.
Edward’s offer to pay $25,000 was accepted by the state just over a month after he submitted it. With the acceptance of the offer, JK Harris saved the Edward’s family over $261,000.
Said Edward, “I am very thankful that this nightmare is over. I can finally start a new life with my family. Thanks, JK Harris and Company.”
